Copyright laws in the Eurasian region share similarities due to a common legal heritage from the Soviet era but have evolved with individual characteristics since independence. Most of these countries are members of the Berne Convention and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), aligning them with international standards. Copyright typically lasts for 50 or 70 years post the author’s death, depending on the country.

Authors hold both economic rights, which allow them to control the reproduction and distribution of their works, and moral rights, which safeguard their personal connection to the work. Enforcement varies widely, with challenges in digital copyright protection and piracy, especially as some countries have limited resources and infrastructure for robust enforcement. Some countries, like Russia and Ukraine, have made significant efforts to combat digital piracy, while others struggle with enforcement infrastructure. Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) operate in these nations to help administer rights, though issues with transparency and distribution persist. Overall, while these countries share a foundation, they continue to adapt their laws to modern demands at varying paces.
